Reputation!

Post by Lady on Wed Aug 04, 2010 4:36 pm

It doesn't really do anything besides up the reputation of users and I'd prefer these only be used when people are being helpful or rude. It shouldn't be used as a guide because people can accidentally hit the buttons and mess up your reputation--like what my husband did to mine earlier this week. >.>

It won't show up for anyone not logged into the forums, so I would assume it'd be used more by newer members in the future to see who knows more than others. XD

The thank you button (the smilie with a halo up by the quote button on every post) only appears for topics you've created and can only be picked once. Basically, whoever gives you the best answer for a question or something like that should be "thanked" with this button. The background of the thanked post changes to a different color so others can see it. (I've tested it out a few times on the forums, so you can see.)

Best explanation is on the Forumotion site:

I was wondering what that reputation thing was for when I saw it. I think it'll be helpful... as long as it doesn't get abused XD

Yep. I'm just glad it isn't like the rep system on MA where people get to leave comments for others to read. It's pretty easy to be abusive with that because you know who's left a bad reputation point and there's almost always retaliation points because of it. Sad

I think there's a way to tie it in with the point system, but I haven't figured out how to yet. I may just do it manually and add so many extra points at the end of every month for the most helpful people on the forums or something like that. Wink

I definitely prefer this system over that one, then.

That sounds like a good idea, and it'll encourage people to be more helpful.

Images for reputation are being worked on, so ignore any weirdness. Wink
